ABOUT THE MARSTRAND COMMUNITY CENTER

A HISTORIC MEETING PLACE SINCE 1886

Societetshuset—one of the West Coast’s most iconic buildings and a symbol of the island’s rich history. The building was constructed in 1886 in honor of King Oscar II, who, in the late 1800s, helped make Marstrand one of Sweden’s most exclusive seaside and spa resorts.

Since its inauguration, Societetshuset has been a natural gathering place for celebrations, culture, and socializing. Here, royalty, public figures, summer visitors, and Marstrand residents have come together for balls, concerts, dinners, and festive events. With its unique location and stately architecture, the building has played a central role in Marstrand’s social life for over 130 years.

From a royal seaside resort to a modern meeting place

In the late 1800s, Marstrand flourished as a seaside resort. Visitors from all over the country traveled here for the sea air, the salty bathing water, and the lively social scene. The Societetshuset quickly became the center of the town’s cultural and social activities, where music, dancing, and elegant dinners created memories that lasted for generations.

Today, the historic atmosphere lives on, while the building has been adapted to meet modern needs. Societetshuset Marstrand is a vibrant gathering place where history meets the present. Weddings, conferences, corporate events, gala dinners, concerts, and private parties are held here in a setting that combines classic charm with modern comfort.

a unique place for memorable experiences

Visiting Societetshuset means experiencing an important part of Marstrand’s cultural heritage. The beautiful salons, the period architecture, and the proximity to the sea create an atmosphere that few other places can offer. Whether you come here for a party, an event, or a conference, you’ll find yourself in a setting where history is always present.

Even today, Societetshuset Marstrand remains a place where people gather to create new memories—just as they have since 1886. With respect for its heritage and an eye toward the future, the building is still one of Marstrand’s most cherished and significant gathering places.
