Marstrand. A unique island with unique conditions for peace, recovery and recreation. With a history of royal respite that few places can match.
In a fantastic setting in the Bohuslän archipelago you will find Marstrands Kurhotell, a genuine retreat hotel that in addition to unique opportunities for relaxation also offers preventive wellness. The hotel is based on the hot and cold bathhouses built in 1843 around Kungsplanen on Marstrand Island. It offers 39 rooms and suites of varying standards with the sea breeze filling the lungs outside the window. The adjacent Societetshuset, built in 1886, is also part of our new, traditional facility. This is where our seasonal restaurant opens up to our guests, tourists and island locals. The buildings have been carefully renovated and much of the original atmosphere has been preserved to create a peaceful and delightful place to relax.
People have been bathing on Marstrand since the early 1800s, and the island has long been the center of the bathing life that developed in Sweden, modeled on the German, British and Dutch coasts. Sweden’s King Oscar II spent almost every summer from 1887 to 1907 on Marstrand, bringing royal splendor to the island and the societies. The so-called Kungsplanen became a natural hub for the social life that has since made Marstrand the famous place it is today. Few places like Kungsplan breathe such history, and here memories of the glamorous society era meet with the suffering prisoners of Carlsten Fortress.
About 40 minutes north of Gothenburg is Marstrand Island. From the Marstrand ferry terminal, the ferry (line 322) between Koön and Marstrand runs regularly around the clock and it only takes 2 minutes to cross. On Marstrandsön, turn right after the ferry terminal and walk along the quay to the north and you will arrive at Marstrands Kurhotell after a short walk.
